What is the difference between medical cannabis and adult use cannabis?

Medical cannabis is used by people with a qualifying medical condition who have registered under a state's medical cannabis program. While some medical products have higher-potency, the cannabis itself is not different from what can be purchased for recreational adult-use.

Ayr Dispensaries in Virginia are currently open to medical patients only. Virginia is not a reciprocal state, so it doesn't allow cardholders from other states to purchase medical cannabis.

How much Cannabis can I buy in one visit?

Accepted Answer

Virginia does not set a specific per-visit purchase limit. Medical patients may purchase multiple cannabis products in a single visit, provided the purchase does not exceed their allowable supply. State law limits patients to no more than a 90-day supply of medical cannabis during any rolling 90-day period, and no more than 4 ounces flower during any rolling 30-day period. Your dispensary pharmacist tracks these limits and can help you determine how much you are eligible to purchase.

Registered medical cannabis patients may possess up to 2 ounces of cannabis in public, the same as other adults 21 and older. Virginia law does not specify a possession limit for legally obtained cannabis kept in a private residence. Medical patients are also subject to dispensing limits at licensed dispensaries, including a maximum 90-day supply and 4 ounces of botanical cannabis (flower) during any rolling 30-day period.
